Campaign themes

I was standing as a green candidate in the 2008 municipal elections in Helsinki.

Who am I? I am a 55-year-old librarian, working at the Department of Astronomy at the University of Helsinki. I’ve been an active member of SETA and served as a part-time IT services maintainer at the Finnish Green League. I’ve also been running mailing lists for women for a long time. I strive to strengthen equality at the university and to further accessibility in libraries.

Here are my campaign themes:

Libraries for everyone!

Libraries are among my top priorities in life. When I was 8 years old, I was able to enter the world of books with the help of the local library. As a middle-aged librarian, I want to secure the same possibility for everyone who wants to read. Library services are important - they also belong to people who stumble into thresholds and obstacles when using their library.

Accessible life

Growing up and living with a disability is challenging. I know it from my own experience. Personally, I have done well. People with disabilities want to live full lives, like everyone else. We don’t want to be congratulated for being heroic survivors, we simply want to live in a city with fewer obstacles.

Information belongs to everyone

I work at a university library. i’ve witnessed several practical threats and possibilities regarding to access to information and its use. I’ve been active on the net for a long time, and I wonder how, for example, senior citizens will be able to use various services offered online.

Support for difference

The city is inhabited by a diverse body of people. A youngster belonging to a sexual minority grows up without all the support that she or he needs. Many kinds of families want to set up their home in this city. people are also separated from each other by language barriers. I think that diversity is valuable and should be nurtured.
